After eight days of temporary suspension, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 resumes on Saturday, May 17. Seven teams are so far in the contention and can still make it to the playoffs - Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Punjab Kings, Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Lucknow Super Giants.
With just two to three matches remaining for every team ahead of the playoffs, most teams have issues with their overseas players. Some of the players will not return to India due to personal reasons, some of them are injured, and some have international obligations. This is likely to impact the teams' ability to win the IPL 2025 championship.
10 Overseas Stars Set to Miss IPL 2025 Playoffs
Jos Buttler (GT)
Buttler has played 11 matches as a number 3 batter for Gujarat Titans and has scored 500 runs at an average of 71.43. But he has been selected in England's ODI team for the series against West Indies starting on May 29. Therefore, he will be missing the last leg of IPL 2025.

Jacob Bethell (RCB)
In absence of Phil Salt, his countryman Jacob Bethell led the RCB innings in their previous two games against CSK and DC. He is also part of England's ODI team. He will return to India for two more league games but will depart before the playoffs begin.
Will Jacks (MI)
Will Jacks played 11 matches for Mumbai Indians and won Player of the Match in two games. He scored a fifty against Gujarat Titans in MI’s last game at Wankhede. But like Buttler and Bethell, he will leave for the England-West Indies series and won’t be available for the playoffs of IPL 2025.
Ryan Rickelton (MI)
The South African wicketkeeper-batter opened for Mumbai Indians and scored 336 runs in 12 matches. He is expected to leave India before MI’s last league match against PBKS on May 26, as per the NOC given by Cricket South Africa.

Corbin Bosch (MI)
Bosch replaced Lizaad Williams in March 2025 and made his debut on April 27 against LSG. He played three games and did well all the three matches. But since he is also part of South Africa's WTC 2025 final team, he will depart India by May 25. If MI makes into the playoffs, the Paltan will definitely miss the services of the Proteas all-rounder.
Kagiso Rabada (GT)
The experienced and quality speedster Kagiso Rabada is a part of Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025, and he has played two games. He then returned to South Africa because of a personal matter, which was a provisional suspension for consuming recreational drugs. He returned to the GT team ahead of the last match against MI. He has been included in the WTC final squad of South Africa, so he will also depart by May 25.
Gerald Coetzee (GT)
Coetzee, who is another GT player, is also included in South Africa's final WTC squad. He will not be able to play in the IPL playoffs if CSA does not provide the NOC.

Marco Jansen (PBKS)
Marco Jansen has played all 11 games for Punjab Kings and contributed significantly to their victories in many games. However, he is also included in the WTC 2025 final squad and will not be able to play in the playoffs of IPL 2025.
Lungi Ngidi (RCB)
Lungi Ngidi played his first match for RCB on May 3 against CSK in which he picked 3 wickets for 30 runs. However, since he is also part of the WTC 2025 final team, he won't be playing in the playoffs. This will be a huge blow for RCB as they will be without the services of Hazlewood and Ngidi in the playoffs and this could dent their hopes of lifting the maiden title.
Tristan Stubbs (DC)
Stubbs is Delhi Capitals' middle-order batter. In case DC qualifies for the playoffs, Stubbs will not be the part of the DC camp since he is in the WTC final squad and hence, he will depart from India by May 25.
Besides these, Australian pacer Mitchell Starc won't return to India to feature in the remaining games for Delhi Capitals. Yet another Australian pacer, Josh Hazlewood, will miss the remainder of the IPL 2025 for RCB because of a shoulder injury. Also, Jake Fraser-McGurk has become unavailable for the due to personal reasons.
The loss of these players will undoubtedly be a massive challenge to their teams in the last and crucial stage of IPL 2025.
