In a shocking incident, 31-year-old television serial actress Manjula, popularly known by her screen name Shruthi, was stabbed multiple times by her husband at their home in Hanumanthanagar, Bengaluru. The attack happened on July 4 between 11:30 am and 12 pm, while their daughters were away at college.
According to police, Manjula was attacked with pepper spray and then stabbed in the shoulder, thigh, and neck. She was immediately rushed to Victoria Hospital and has now been discharged after treatment. Her husband, Amaresh HS (49), was arrested from the spot by neighbours and handed over to the police. He has been booked for attempted murder.
A history of violence
Reports suggest the couple had a troubled marriage for over 15 years, despite being married for two decades. Manjula had earlier filed a complaint against Amaresh in April, accusing him of abuse. She had left their home and was staying with her brother. Amaresh later apologised and promised to change, after which she returned home.
The day of the incident
On the morning of the attack, their daughters left for college. Manjula said Amaresh used pepper spray to blind her before attacking her with a knife. Her screams alerted the neighbours, who rushed in and stopped the assault. They managed to catch Amaresh and called the police immediately.
Condition and safety now
Manjula is currently recovering and is reportedly safe. She was discharged after receiving treatment for her injuries. Authorities are continuing their investigation and have assured that Amaresh will face strict legal action.
The incident has sparked concern over domestic violence, especially involving public figures. Activists have urged women not to ignore early signs of abuse and to seek legal help immediately.
