The makers have officially dropped a major update on their upcoming Korean action film Mantis. It's a spinoff of the 2023 hit Kill Boksoon. Today morning (August 27), they dropped the much-anticipated teaser, showing fans a thrilling first look into the dark world of contract killers. Mantis is set to premiere globally on September 26, 2025, only on Netflix.
Mantis teaser unveiled
The newly released teaser hints at a brewing storm in the assassin underworld. It features intense action, a dangerous power vacuum, and the return of a feared hitman. The tagline reads: "The rules are broken. Who dares take the shadows?", suggesting a fierce battle for dominance in a world with no moral boundaries. Viewers are introduced to a new lineup of killers and a world on the brink of chaos following the death of MK Ent.’s leader Cha Min-kyu.
At the centre of the story is Han-ul, codenamed “Mantis,” played by Yim Si-wan (Unlocked, Misaeng). A highly skilled assassin, Mantis has been away from the scene but returns to the game with a mix of purpose and mystery. As he re-enters MK Ent., he reunites with his old trainee friend Jae-yi (played by Park Gyu-young of Sweet Home fame), who shares a complicated emotional history with him.
Meanwhile, Jo Woo-jin takes on the role of Dok-go, a legendary killer who once founded MK Ent. Although retired, he steps back into the role of CEO after Min-kyu’s death, with hopes of restoring order, but not without his own agenda.
More about Mantis
Unlike Kill Boksoon, which followed a mother torn between family life and murder contracts, Mantis shifts the film's angle to the power struggles and shifting loyalties among elite assassins. The character Mantis was only briefly mentioned in Kill Boksoon, and now, he steps into the spotlight for a full-fledged narrative of his own.
The film is the directorial debut of Lee Tae-sung, who co-wrote the script with Kill Boksoon’s director Byun Sung-hyun. Lee previously worked as an assistant director on both Kill Boksoon and The King. The project is backed by SEE AT Film Co., LTD, the production house known for titles like Love and Leashes and Kingmaker.
With action, emotional complexity, and a world full of shifting allegiances, Mantis promises to be a gripping expansion of the Kill Boksoon universe. All eyes now turn to September 26.
