Who is Ahoi Mata?
Ahoi Mata is considered a form of Goddess Parvati. She is especially worshipped as a goddess who protects children and bestows long life. Religious belief holds that worshipping her creates yoga in women's horoscopes that alleviates problems related to infertility, miscarriage, untimely death of children, and evil offspring.
According to legend, Ahoi Mata is depicted as a porcupine (mongoose). It is said that in ancient times, a woman, who was the mother of two sons, accidentally killed porcupine pups while digging in the forest. Afterward, the woman begged the Goddess for forgiveness. Pleased with her penance, the goddess blesses her, promising her safety. Since then, mothers have worshipped Ahoi Mata and prayed for their children's long life and well-being.
