Jojo Thomas, president of the All Mumbai Malayali Association, has been reappointed as general secretary of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee. The re-organisation follows the appointment of Harshwardhan Sakpal as the new MPCC president.
Steady Rise Through Congress Ranks
Thomas, 51, started as the president of the Congress -affiliated Kerala Students Union. He later became South Mumbai district secretary to MPCC state secretary, and ultimately to general secretary with full charge of a district.
Promoting Linguistic Harmony in Mumbai
He is an active figure in Mumbai's social and cultural spheres, having organised the 'Marathi-Malayali Ethnic Fest' to foster unity between the two linguistic communities. His annual 'nega pookkalam' (floral carpet) at the CSMT station garners significant public attention. He has also served as a member of the Global Kerala Assembly and a former member of the Western Region Sangeetha Nataka Akademi.

His social initiatives include arrangment of transport during the covid epidemic to facilitate travel for people to various states. Thomas has also played a crucial role in engaging the Christian community in Maharashtra, organising meetings to address their concerns, participating in rallies at Azad Maidan.
