Mumbai: In its reaction to the arrest and the subsequent release of two Christian nuns on charges of human trafficking and forced religious conversion in Durg, Chhattisgarh, the Mumbai BJP Minority Morcha has written to Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, to take immediate and appropriate action to ensure justice is served and to prevent such unwarranted harassment in the future.
Agnelo Fernandes, general secretary of the Mumbai BJP Minority Morcha, said that the incident has deeply hurt the sentiments of the Christian community across the country. “As a Christian representative within the BJP, I feel it is my moral responsibility to bring this matter to your attention and request your intervention. We, as a community, do not support or promote forceful conversions and stand firmly against any such practice,” said Fernandes.

Whether it is through education, healthcare, or social outreach in remote and tribal areas, the Christian community has always contributed meaningfully to the nation.”
The nuns, Sister Preethy Mary and Sister Vandana Francis from the Assisi Sisters of Mary Immaculate, were granted bail on Saturday by a special NIA court. They had been arrested on July 25 at Durg railway station after complaints from Bajrang Dal activists.
