Prince Harry visits late Queen's grave moments after landing in UK on tragic anniversary

Prince Harry has reportedly visited the final resting place of the late Queen Elizabeth II, just moments after arriving in London on a solo trip.

Harry arrived at Heathrow Airport this morning solo as his wife, Meghan Markle, and their children, Archie and Lilibet, remained in America. Harry has made the trip from his home in California to London for the WellChild Awards, to celebrate the achievements and resilience of seriously ill youngsters and their families.

The Duke of Sussex's rare visit to the UK for the annual WellChild Awards has coincided with the three-year anniversary of the late monarch's passing.

Mere moments after landing at Heathrow, Prince Harry is said to have made his way to St. George's Chapel in Windsor, where he tied the knot with Meghan Markle in 2018, to pay his respects to his late grandmother.

Sky News reports that Prince Harry laid a wreath while paying his respects to the late Queen Elizabeth, who passed away at her beloved Balmoral estate on September 8, 2022, at the age of 96.

A source has claimed that the prince is reportedly "so excited" to have returned to his home country of England, telling Hello Magazine: "He's so excited to come back to the UK. He's in a really good headspace. He's really looking forward to seeing everyone from his patronages face-to-face and focusing on the causes. He’s really positive about coming back to do all the stuff that he loves doing."

This marks Harry’s 15th time attending the annual award ceremony as he continues his work as the charity’s patron, a role he has held for 17 years. The Duke will spend time with each winner and their families at a pre-ceremony reception, then present an award to an inspirational child aged four to six. Harry’s arrival back in the UK also coincides with the third anniversary of the death of Queen Elizabeth.

Harry's trip to the UK has prompted much speculation around a potential meeting between the Duke and his estranged father, King Charles.

If the father and son do meet during Harry’s rare trip to his home country, it will be the first time they have seen each other since February 2024.

Harry has long expressed his desire to reconcile with King Charles and the royal family at large, with rumours of peace talks first emerging when senior aides to both Charles and Harry were spotted at a meeting in London in early July.

A US source told the Mirror that there is a strong possibility the pair will reunite, saying: “It’s clear there is now a determination on both sides to make this happen.

"Nobody is pretending the wider family issues have been resolved, but this is about beginning with Charles and Harry. For the first time in a long time, there’s a genuine sense that reconciliation is within reach.”

They added: “After 20 months apart, and with the King continuing his treatment, the feeling is that the time is right to take that step. This is not about grand gestures or set-piece meetings - it’s about a simple face-to-face conversation between a father and his son.

"The priority is privacy and dignity, but also ensuring the door stays open for further dialogue."

While rumours have swirled about Prince Harry and King Charles meeting during the Duke of Sussex’s brief trip to London, neither Buckingham Palace nor the Sussex camp have confirmed such a meeting will take place.
