Pub warns parents to 'watch your kids' as boy breaks arm

A popular has issued a stern warning to parents after a spate of injuries in its newly refurbished play area. The Airport Pub in has seen several accidents since the playground's revamp earlier this year.

Following these incidents, the pub's staff took to social media to urge parents to keep an eye on their children, as reported by the . In a series of messages posted on and last Saturday, the establishment recounted various mishaps, including a serious incident where a boy fractured his arm.

The social media plea stated: "We would like to remind all visitors that children must be supervised at all times whilst on the play area."

Detailing the recent accidents, the post continued: "Over recent weeks there have been multiple reports of children hurting themselves due to misuse of the equipment, the most major being a young boy breaking his arm.

"There have also been instances of children hitting/scratching other children. On all occasions, the children have been unsupervised which makes establishing exactly what has happened difficult without reviewing CCTV."

The pub's message was clear: "If there is a family seated inside but we notice only the parents/adults at the table whilst the children are on the play area, we will inform you that they need to be supervised. Thanks in advance for your cooperation."

A play area disclaimer was shared in the post, saying: "Parents must supervise children at all times."

The notice advises that the play zone is designed for under 12s and includes rules like a ban on smoking or vaping and the prohibition of glassware. Following a recent makeover, families visiting the venue have seen improvements to both the airplane structure and the play space which were first established seven years ago.

With inclusivity as a core focus, the revamped airplane has exciting sensory features, wider access points at the base, and interactive aspects aimed at stimulating imaginative play. Moving beyond mere amusement, the upgraded play area now features an educational sign language board to assist deaf and hard-of-hearing children, while offering others the opportunity to learn sign language.

Catering for children of all abilities, the updated play space has wheelchair-accessible installations such as a merry-go-round, a toddler-friendly slide, and informative panels powered by solar energy for sustainability. After the episodes at the Robinsons-owned pub, management has since modified the social media announcements to omit specific information about the events.

The current signs politely remind customers to keep an eye on their offspring, noting that staff will intervene if kids are left unsupervised in the play zone.

Speaking about the matter, a representative for the establishment said: "The message The Airport team wanted to get across was the importance of close supervision on the play equipment. It's an extremely busy pub with lots of children using the equipment every day. We want everyone to have a great time in the pub and ensuring the safety of everyone is paramount."

They continued: "We of course do everything at our end to ensure risk assessments and procedures are in place and work with the EHO (environmental health officers) to do so, but this still requires the cooperation of our visitors too. We're lucky to have a great and unique spot for families to visit and love seeing the children making the most of the play area."
