Rourkela: Nuagaon Hockey Training Centre (HTC) showed their champions’ mettle as they staged a fine recovery in the final of the 4th U-14 Boys’ Odisha Naval Tata Hockey Grassroot tournament to retain the title.
The defending champions rallied from 1-2 to tame Gurundia HTC 3-2 in an exciting final at the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium.
Lathikata HTC pipped Subdega HTC in a penalty shootout to finish third, after regulation time ended 2-2.
Deputy Speaker, Odisha Assembly Bhabani Shankar Bhoi graced the closing ceremony as the chief guest. Among other eminent dignitaries present were RITES Independent Director Purnima Kerketta, social worker Malaya Mohapatra and Deputy Director Sports (Rourkela) Sudipta Kumar Nayak.
The fourth edition of the tournament, which began on October 29, featured some of the best hockey talents from the grassroots across Odisha. Odisha Naval Tata Hockey High Performance Centre (ONTHHPC) organises the meet to unearth the next generation of hockey stars from the state.
