A new mystery thriller series, Hysteria!, which masterfully combines comedy and horror, is set to hit UK streaming platforms.

Drawing parallels with the Netflix sensation Stranger Things, Hysteria! is set amidst the Satanic Panic of 1980s America and features a well-known Modern Family actress in its cast.

In addition to Stranger Things, the show has drawn comparisons to the Scream film franchise due to its suburban backdrop, dark occult themes, and underlying humour.

Paramount Plus provides a synopsis that reads: "When a beloved varsity quarterback disappears during the Satanic Panic of the late 1980s, a struggling high school heavy metal band of outcasts realise they can capitalise on the town's sudden interest in the occult by building a reputation as a Satanic metal band.

The series boasts a cast of familiar faces, including Julie Bowen, best known for her role as Claire Dunphy in ABC's hit sitcom Modern Family.

The cast is graced by the presence of Pitch Perfect star Anna Camp, who has recently been seen in Netflix's hit series You.

Cruel Summer actress Chiara Aurelia also appears alongside fellow thespians Emjay Anthony, Kezii Curtis and Nikki Hahn.

What is the Hysteria! UK release date?

Hysteria will arrive in the UK on May 16, with the first three episodes dropping all at once. After that, the five remaining episodes will drop weekly.

The show first made its debut on Peacock back in October 2024, with Variety reporting in 2025 that it had been cancelled after just one season.

Despite this, the show has scored an impressive 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with the critical consensus reading: "Freaky in both scares and style, Hysteria! will be a raucous good time for viewers who like their horror programming to have a sense of humor."
