I removed mould from my washing machine drawer and drum with 1 product-not vinegar

Mould grows in washing machines because the conditions inside them are often warm, damp and poorly ventilated. It's often in the rubber seal and the detergent drawer where the worst dirt can be found. I also wash clothing at quite low temperatures, around 30C-40C, which isn't effective when it comes to killing mould in the appliance.

Whilst there are easy ways to clean these areas, after trying for many months, I was starting to give up. That was until I picked up a product in my weekly food shop, which turned out to be game-changing. If you're sceptical about using white vinegar or any natural products on appliances, this product could be perfect for you.

The product in question is the Dettol Antibacterial Washing Machine cleaner, which comes in a variety of scents, but I went for the Spring Blossom one.

It claims to be a 5-in-1 product, killing bacteria, preventing bad odours, removing limescale, removing hidden dirt and providing a lasting freshness.

At around £4 a bottle, I had high hopes, so I started by following the instructions on the back of the bottle.

Recommended to use every two months, I started by cleaning my detergent drawer, glass door and rubber seal.

I simply diluted one tablespoon of washing machine cleaner in 200ml of water and then used a sponge to wipe these areas clean using gloves.

The results were instant, with mounts of mould melting away from the rubber seal and pet hair coming away from the glass door. I couldn't believe how bad it was, despite using a variety of other methods in recent months.

I also removed the detergent drawer, giving it a soak in some washing-up liquid and warm water before returning it to the appliance.

Next, it was time to clean the actual drum. To do so, I poured the remaining liquid from the bottle into the detergent drawer.

I then ran the machine at 60°C without any laundry. It warned me that old machines may need a second treatment, but luckily, mine was spotless after use.

It's important not to mix this product with any other household items and use it on its own. The results were incredible with a shiny drum and an incredible-smelling appliance. It also didn't require any scrubbing or any hard work, which was a bonus for me.

I picked up this product in Tesco, but it is also available in supermarkets like Waitrose, Asda and Iceland for a similar price, as well as B&M.
