Jack Draper pulls out of two tournaments with Wimbledon injury and sets return date

Jack Draper has revealed he's pulling out of two upcoming tournaments because of an injury concern and has opened up about his plans for the US Open. It comes after a disappointing Wimbledon, where the Brit was dumped out in the second round by Marin Cilic.

Draper had entered the tournament as one of the contenders, with John McEnroe even tipping him as an outsider to go all the way and win the title. It wasn't to be for the 23-year-old, who will no doubt have better days at the All England Club in the future, but hopes of a better performance at the final Grand Slam of the year have already taken a blow, given Draper admitted he's currently struggling with an injury.

Posting on social media, he said: "After Wimbledon I picked up an injury in my left arm, nothing serious, but I have to make sure it recovers fully for the rest of the season." Issuing an update on his upcoming schedule, he added: "Unfortunately, I won't be able to compete in Toronto and Cincinnati.... See you in NYC!"

It means that all things equal, Draper should be back in action for the US Open, when it kicks off on August 24. However, because of the withdrawals he may be coming into it a little cold.

McEnroe has previously warned Draper that his physical attributes could cause him injury problems, saying: "He's [Draper] six foot four, I don't think he's got an ounce of fat on him, it's not like he can't volley - he certainly can. I think he will make that adjustment. It'll be interesting to see if he changes things up on the hard courts, how he approaches that.

"Take Daniil Medvedev, I think it caught up, he's the guy that started that whole thing, standing way back. I think it's catching up to him mentally and physically. When you're winning 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 - how much more was [Aleksandar] Vukic running than Sinner just now? It seemed like twice at much. How much did [Novak] Djokovic make poor Dan Evans run today? He was running side to side."

Elsewhere, both Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic have also withdrawn from the National Bank Open in Canada, with what would've been their first tournament since last week's Championships. Confirming the news via a statement, the organisers said: "Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic have been forced to withdraw from the 2025 National Bank Open in Toronto as they recover following Wimbledon. Jack Draper has also withdrawn due to injury."
