Manchester United's new signing Bryan Mbeumo could be the key to revitalising their attack next season. The 25-year-old has been snapped up in a deal worth a staggering £71million as United aim to address their goal-scoring woes.
Last season, Bruno Fernandes and Amad topped the scoring charts with a mere eight league goals each, contributing to United's disappointing 15th-place finish in the Premier League. United's first signing of the transfer window was Matheus Cunha, who had an impressive season for Wolves, contributing to 21 goals. However, Mbeumo enjoyed an even more productive season at Brentford, which marked him out as one of the Premier League's most influential players, even outshining Manchester City's Erling Haaland.
Sky Sports has shared statistics that reveal Mbeumo was the second-most impactful player in the Premier League last season, trailing only Liverpool's Mohamed Salah in terms of points earned for his team. With 20 goals and seven assists, Mbeumo contributed a remarkable 22 points, accounting for 39.2 per cent of Brentford's total, summing up just how much of a difference-maker he can be.
In contrast, despite scoring 22 goals and providing three assists, Haaland's contributions translated into just 17 points for City, making up 23.9 per cent of their points tally.
In terms of United players, Amad's 14 goal contributions were shown to have resulted in seven points and accounted for 16.6 percent of the club's total. In contrast, Cunha's standout performances for Wolves earned them 12 points, making up 28.5 percent of their points.
Salah was the league's most consistent game-changer by some distance. His 47 goal contributions secured 38 points in Liverpool's title-winning campaign.
Not far behind Mbeumo in terms of his impact was Newcastle's Alexander Isak, whose 29 goal contributions were pivotal in gaining 21 points for his team, equating to 31.8 percent of their total points.
These figures suggest that the £71m investment in Mbeumo could be a shrewd move. Isak is the same age as Mbeumo, but has a reported value of £150m amid interest from Liverpool.
United are still on the hunt for a centre-forward to round off their revamped attack. However, with Mbeumo on board, Ruben Amorim's frontline could be significantly more potent next season. Mbeumo will not feature in the club's upcoming friendly against Bournemouth, but he's eager to begin his time at United, having been inspired by the manager's vision.
"Manchester is a big club. I think it's a great opportunity and I chose the project. I think I'm someone who likes a challenge," Mbeumo told reporters. "There is a very good project in Manchester and I wanted to be part of it.
"Of course, I spoke to some other managers because I wanted to hear their projects but the Manchester United one was very good for me. He (Amorim) said 'we are people who like winning, and we want to be the best team', and of course that's what we will try to do.
"I think it was a very friendly conversation and a constructive one. He explained his project to me, what he wanted to do and I really clicked on that."
