
Spain has been hit by a communication outage, leaving many internet and landline users unable to use their services. The incident also had an impact on emergency services, prompting blue light organisations in several communities around Spain to issue an alternative number to '112', the local equivalent of Britain's 999.
The issue, which began early on Tuesday, May 20, appears to be linked in network upgrade being carried out by Telefonica, local news outlet reports. Many internet users appear to have also been impacted by issues, however it is unclear whether they are linked to Telefonica's works. Clients of Movistar and O2, two Telefonica companies, reported fibre optics being down.
