A young fan was left disappointed when a man snatched a signed hat intended for him after Kamil Majchrzak's remarkable second-round victory at the US Open. Majchrzak, fresh from his first-ever fourth-round appearance at Wimbledon, matched his best performance at the US Open by reaching the third round. His win over Canadian Open finalist Karen Khachanov in a five-set nail-biter was overshadowed by an unsavoury incident that has since taken social media by storm.
As Majchrzak signed autographs, he attempted to give his hat to a young supporter, but it was grabbed by another man, now identified as the owner of a private paving stone company in Poland. The footage capturing this awkward exchange has spread like wildfire online, with netizens deducing that the man is a CEO who has subsequently turned off all comments on his social media accounts.
Unaware of the situation at the time due to the throng of fans on Court 11, Majchrzak later took to Instagram to contact the child.
He expressed regret on social media: "After the match I didn't record that my cap didn't get to the boy," and showed his readiness to rectify the situation, "Thanks to @asicstennis I've got enough caps, so I'm prepared for that."
Majchrzak also made a public appeal: "Hey guys, could you help me find the kid from my match @USOpen @Eurosportpl. If it's you (or your parents see this), please send me a DM."
In a heartwarming display of sportsmanship, Kamil Majchrzak took to social media to help a family in need and was astounded by the swift response. Just an hour after his appeal, he updated his followers: "I am impressed by the power of the internet. We got it! It's all good now."
Majchrzak's noble act has earned him plaudits as he gears up for his third-round clash with Leandro Riedi on Saturday. Despite not having clinched a singles title yet and sitting at No.88 in the world rankings, Majchrzak has impressed at Flushing Meadows.
The Polish player caused a stir at the Grand Slam by knocking out former Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini, reaching the fourth round in what is his best performance at such a prestigious event. After failing to make the cut for the US Open main draw in recent attempts, he has now matched his previous best from 2019.

Facing the ninth seed Karen Khachanov, who had a strong showing at Wimbledon this year, Majchrzak was the clear underdog. However, in a remarkable comeback, he overturned a two-set deficit to triumph in a nail-biting tiebreak in the final set, avenging his Wimbledon defeat to Khachanov earlier in the year.
Riedi, Majchrzak's upcoming opponent, has also staged an impressive comeback, overcoming No. 19 seed Francisco Cerundolo in a five-set epic.
Despite being ranked outside the top 400, Riedi has shown formidable form since his return from knee surgery.
