Agartala: TIPRAMotha MLA Ranjit Debbarma on Tuesday emphasised the necessity for immediate measures against Bangladeshis living in the state illegally.

"Bangladeshi nationals have been staying in slums, rented houses, and densely populated areas in different towns, and have acquired Indian documents like Aadhaar, PAN, voter IDs, and ration cards with political support," he alleged in a statement.

Addressing both state and central authorities, Debbarma requested swift identification and removal of people living with fraudulent documentation, noting that certain immigrants favour Pakistan and potentially maintain connections with ISI or extremist Bangladeshi organisations.

Additionally, he stated that these immigrants have occupied govt and forest territories, including regions under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). He further stated that certain unauthorised immigrants have assumed Hindu identities and formed marriages with local women to establish permanent residency.

He advocated for implementing a state-wide drive to detect and deport Bangladeshis comparable to recent initiatives in Delhi, Assam, and Gujarat. Noting dissatisfaction with administrative response, he sought immediate involvement from the chief minister, governor, TTAADC administration, and Union Home Ministry, while encouraging political organisations to prioritise national security.

Police reports indicate that during the recent India-Pakistan tensions, authorities arrested seven individuals across Tripura for publishing pro-Pakistan content and expressing anti-Indian views on social media platforms within a week.
