Amidst warnings that Liam Lawson could face a second F1 sacking mid-season if he “doesn’t improve any further”, the Racing Bulls driver claims that while it does look “pretty shocking”, the pace is still there. All he needs to do is put a full race weekend together, which can be “quite tough”, as Lawson puts it.
Liam Lawson has yet to score a point in the 2025 f1 season for Racing Bulls, following his demotion from Red Bull to their sister team.
Liam Lawson could face a second F1 sacking if he “doesn’t improve any further”
Liam Lawson was set for an outstanding start in the 2025 f1 season as he graced the coveted second seat at Red Bull Racing alongside reigning world champion Max Verstappen. However, after two dismal rounds in the first two races , Lawson was dropped by Red Bull, demoting him to the sister team Racing Bulls and making way for Yuki Tsunoda to take his place at the senior team. Lawson’s return to Racing Bulls was thought to help revive his form, with Red Bull team principal Christian Horner calling it ‘a duty of care’ to the New Zealander who had yet to gain his wits at the senior team.
But even with the junior team, the Kiwi’s performance has remained disappointing; and his DNF at the Miami Grand Prix after his crash with Alpine driver Jack Doohan seems to have put his place in the f1 grid in jeopardy. Lawson has been consistently out-performed by his teammate Isack Hadjar at Racing Bulls, leading renowned F1 legends to warn that his time in Formula One might be limited.
Former F1 McLaren and Williams driver and seven time Grand Prix winner Juan Pablo Montoya said that he “wouldn’t be surprised” if Liam Lawson is replaced by prodigy Arvid Lindblad mid season. The 18-year old Lindblad is seen as the next big talent at the Red Bull junior programme, and is highly rated by the six time constructors’ champion team.
“I’ll tell you the truth,” says Montoya. “If Liam doesn’t improve any further, I wouldn’t be surprised if they put Lindblad in at some point. Not at all. I wouldn’t be a little surprised.”

While the Lawson- Doohan crash at Miami has led to Alpine replacing Doohan with Franco Colapinto for the next five races; Liam Lawson continues as a Racing Bulls driver. But the question remains- for how much longer.
