Frame norms to ensure proper footpaths: SC

NEW DELHI: Supreme Court on Wednesday directed states and UTs to frame guidelines to ensure proper footpaths for pedestrians, saying that having unobstructed and disabled-friendly footpaths was part of their fundamental rights. A bench of Justices Abhay S Oka and Ujjal Bhuyan directed the central govt to place on record in two months its guidelines for protecting rights of pedestrians and granted six months to the govt to set up a National Road Safety Board.
